It may surprise some first-visitors to Bangkok to hear that the city center or downtown area of the city is the perfect location for a romantic honeymoon. Most people would think that the noise and traffic of a big city would be less than ideal for a romantic holiday. However, Bangkok is not like most cities. Bangkok is a fascinating mixture of the old and the new that are often located right next door to each other.
We’ll tell you about some of the unique places to visit and things to do for couples who’ve chosen to celebrate their honeymoon in the iconic and timeless city of Bangkok.
Bangkok’s City Center
Bangkok has grown around the Chao Phraya River and the canals that once crisscrossed the city. They have served as pedestrian roads and methods of transporting goods around the city in years past. This meant that the city is laid out a bit differently than most of the other capital cities around the world. There are pockets of lush greenery next to modern skyscrapers, old hidden neighborhoods waiting to be explored and quaint old mansions in the heart of the business district of Bangkok.
Bangkok’s city center is also right next to the Chao Phraya River, providing an extra level of color and interesting sights to visit and explore during your honeymoon.
Lumpini Park
We’ll start with the oldest and most iconic park in the city. Lumpini Park is located between the Sukhumvit Road shopping and entertainment area of the city, and the Silom and Sathorn business districts. The park was commissioned by King Rama VI, and a statue of His Majesty stands at the Southeastern gate to the park. The park is a favorite gathering place for residents, with events, group exercise classes or fairs often happening in the park.
The wide pathways under mature tropical trees and the lake in the center of the park with paddleboats for rent serve as romantic destinations for couples who appreciate the natural beauty and quiet in the heart of the city. It’s the perfect place to explore during a quiet honeymoon morning in Bangkok.
Experience a Couple’s Massage

The city center area of Bangkok has many day spas to help busy and frazzled executives take a break from the pressure of their jobs. If you've never experienced a Thai massage before, these day spas are the ideal destination after your morning in the park. Book a couple's massage at one of the city's local day spas, and you'll soon experience the calming and healthy magic of a traditional Thai massage.
Bangkok Art and Culture Centre
Explore the colorful creative side of Thai culture with a visit to Bangkok Are and Culture Centre (BACC). Just a short BTS Skytrain ride to the National Stadium station in the Siam Square area, the BACC is an eye-opening place to spend a few hours discovering the many talented artists of Thailand.
Admission is free and there are many vibrant exhibits of paintings, photography, sculpture, textiles, film and cultural events happening continuously that provide a glimpse into the lively arts scene of Thailand.
Jim Thompson House Museum
In the same neighborhood as the BACC, you'll find the Jim Thompson House Museum. This fascinating and unique museum along the Sang Saep Khlong (canal) reveals a beautiful facet of Bangkok that many visitors to the city neglect to explore: the traditional wooden houses of the city.
Jim Thompson was an American textile trader and entrepreneur who helped revitalize Thailand’s silk industry. He lived in this impressive traditional house made from six other homes. He also established an impressive art collection of European, Chinese and Southeast Asian art pieces, which are now exhibited in the Jim Thompson House Museum. Visiting the museum is like stepping back in time to see the Bangkok of yesteryear. It’s one of the best places for couples to visit and explore in Bangkok.
Mahanakhon Skywalk
From the old to a new and modern Bangkok. The Mahanakhon Skywalk is a stunning feature of the King Power Mahanakhon Building in the Silom area of town. It's the highest observation platform in Bangkok and offers 360-degree views from 314 meters above the city. It also has a glass tray that serves as the floor in a section of the platform, enabling visitors to take in the views below their feet and pose for dramatic pictures and selfies.
